The Government’s “Return To Work Safety Protocol” recommends that every workplace has at least one lead worker representative (COVID-19 Compliance Officer) charged with ensuring that COVID-19 measures are strictly adhered to in their place of work. This worker must receive the necessary training in order to carry out the role.

It is important that the right individual is selected as they will be the point of contact for the HSE, HSA or any other governing body to interact with and support in putting the necessary processes and procedures in place. They will also liaise with their company management regarding the company’s COVID-19 work planning.

The role includes proactive day-to-day duties to ensure physical distancing and hygiene controls are being maintained to protect workers, members of the public and to reduce the spread of COVID-19, as well as reactive duties when dealing with suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the workplace.

Mackin have been working with various organisations across different sectors in delivering COVID-19 Compliance Officer Awareness training over the last few weeks as businesses have been reopening. The training course covers issues that would be viewed as essential for compliance personnel dealing with the threat and dangers imposed by the spread of COVID-19 in the work environment, including the return to work process.
