Construction is responsible for employing a lot of workers in Ireland currently, and it is vital to ensure we protect this industry, and construction workers, during this time.

COVID-19 is here for the foreseeable future, and we need to prepare for this on site. As an employer, there are three key things to remember:

  1. Develop a plan to assess the site, increase welfare facilities, and reduce the number of personnel working in certain areas at the one time. Widen walkways and add barriers where possible, close off larger areas to prevent personnel congregating together, and stagger break times and start times.
  2. Implement the plan developed by communicating it to your employees through ‘toolbox-talks’, posters and supervision
  3. Monitor the site regularly, to ensure that all personnel are adhering to the new policies in place, continuously.

As employees, we too have a part to play to protect ourselves and others. This includes:

  • Social distancing
  • Adhering to hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette
  • Avoiding areas where many people are working
